Our friends from our neighborhood called Friday night and asked us to go with them to the Farmer's Market in Matthews, NC, which is about 15-20 mins. from our house. Then we would have breakfast afterwards. We got picked up at 7:30 and headed on over to the market. What a wonderful, lively place! It was jumping when we got there and what wonderful delights there were! This is all locally grown produce, cheeses, meat, eggs, veggies, fruit, soaps, baskets, etc.! I bought some new potatoes and summer yellow summer squash. DH found a homemade chocolate vendor, so he just had to have some double dipped brownie bites for later. My friend had been on a garden tour in Hillsborough, NC about 2 hrs. from our homes and heard about the Market and that Herb Day was yesterday. I love herbs and was so happy she thought of me! The Charlotte Herb Guild was there and they were making lavendar wands and tussie mussies! My friend bought one of each and their cookbook. After we move, I am going to look into joining this Guild. I really miss talking to herb gardeners and just plain gardeners. No one in my neighborhood, except my friend gardens and even she isn't really into it like I am. Her yard does look great this year though. I told her I would give her some things from my garden before we move and she is so excited! She asked me if she could have one of my Japanese Ferns because she had never seen them until I had them. I am giving her one of my biggest ones and she's going to divide it up into 3 different plants. I'm also giving her some of my hosta plants. Today John and I will be busy in the garden digging up the plants we are taking with us. Yesterday we packed from about 9:15 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. We got so much done but have more to go!
Here are some pictures from yesterdays market:
Here are some of the Charlotte Herb Guild ladies making the tussie mussies for customers. They were so beautiful, I'm glad they are keeping this art alive!
The strawberries are so wonderful this year! I thought they wouldn't be because of all the rain, but as you can see they are wonderful!
The radishes this year are just great! I had to click this pic! I love radishes!
The Market even had a Quintet there for our listening pleasure.
I can't wait to go back again, but I won't be able to go until after we have moved-just too much to do!

I woke up to a shadow on my carpet today-could it be YES it is the SUN!!! It just makes you feel better when the sun is out. The whole weekend is suppose to be warm and sunny. Yahoooooooo!!! I have some plants that need to be dug up and tomorrow is a wonderful day to do that. I hope you have some sun where you are today! Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

We are now 3.97" over projected rain-NO KIDDING!
I am tired of this weather! We had an extreme drought last year and now the newsman told us this morning we are 3.97" over our projected rainfall for the month so far. I was so happy to see the rain in the beginning of Spring, but now it is getting old. It's likely we will have atleast 2 more days (today and tomorrow) of more rain. This is getting ridiculous. Some of my flowers are getting all soggy and some are even dying because of too much rain. My petunia and verbena look a sight! This weekend is looking so far like a wonderfully, sunny weekend and I certainly hope so! Please send sun vibes our way!

Thank you everyone!
I just wanted to say thanks to every for your prayers and kind words for our family! I just wanted to hug every last one of you!! Our family is getting through this very well. Jenny and Kevin saw the Dr. yesterday and they said it wasn't their time. It was nature's way of saying something was wrong. They will try again in a few months. Jenny went back to work and seems to be keeping busy to occupy her mind. She's already to help us move on 6/12! She is truly a remarkable young woman! Thank you again everyone!

This was an extremely sad weekend for our family.
Jenny had a miscarriage yesterday morning. She was with me almost all day on Saturday and she looked really pale and was spotting. She rested alot of the day and then went home that night. Kevin had to work yesterday morning and while he was gone she had a miscarriage. My heart went out to them, they were looking forward to have this baby so much. We all were as a matter of fact. She is feeling pretty good today, they came down for lunch and so did Megan and Ken. She was laughing and I think it was really good they both came down. You always need to keep your mind off things like that. She told me she cried it all out last night and she felt much better mentally. I am not so impressed with how 2009 has treated our family-that's for sure!! Jenny said I'm definitely going to stay up to usher this year out at midnight on 12/31 and usher in a new year! I agree!

Alot going on this weekend!
I have alot to do this weekend and there will be some relaxing going on too! Today I'll be packing some things, especially John's great grandmother's china. The woman is coming next Sunday to pick up the Dining Room set, so it needs to be cleaned out. I also have to pack my Bellek from Ireland too. I'm going to collect the things for the garage sale next Saturday too. I will also be digging up some plants I'm taking with me to the new place. I'm going to make container gardens-they should look really nice. John will have to work next weekend on disassembling the fountain. It isn't very high, it looks like a regular birdbath but there is an acorn in the middle for the water to come out. There is alot to get done in less than 3 weeks time! I also want to take some time out to read a little too. The girls and their men will be coming here on Monday for a picnic. That should be really nice. It will be our last family gathering at this house too. It will be a little sad because Jenny and Kevin got married here. They don't seem to be too upset about it though.
I hope everyone has a love 3-day weekend!

I really could use this.......
I really wish that I could be at the Beach above!!! TGIF is an understatement! This week has been busy, emotional and down right draining for me! I have had to deal with a huge problem on one of the projects at work (which I got resolved but it took almost all week), house stuff, townhouse lease, complaining Mom and you name it! I am looking forward to a lovely 3-day weekend! Bring it on!!

Stroll through the Garden Tonight-New Things Blooming
I came home from work tonight and decided to stroll around the yard. I noticed the minute I pulled in the driveway the hydrangea out front had started to bloom. I love them! Megan used them in her wedding arrangements last year and they were gorgeous! My Astilbes started blooming too. I love their long feathers of pink. My magnolia tree is blooming right now. The buds are not fully opened so when they do I'll have to take more pictures to show you. I hope I can get some really nice pictures so I can paint them this Fall/Winter. Teddy kicked up some squirrels that were trying to steal my seed for the birds. He loved chasing them up and was trying to get up the tree to get them-silly dog!
The girl that wanted to buy my Dining Room set came and bought it!! Woohoo! That was fairly easy! Craig's List works wonders. Now I need to get rid of the wall unit and the leather couch. I have had more inquiries about that couch, but no takers yet. They keep wanting to have me take to little for it. It is almost brand new. I will take it with me before I let it go for so little. Maybe it will fit in John's office in the new place.
Well on to the stroll......
I planted this Nikko Blue hydrangea 5 yrs. ago and it is the best it has ever been. I came home from work today and noticed it just started to bloom. I love hydrangeas of all colors. The pink one in the back of the house is starting to get tiny buds on it too. It has more shade so it isn't as far along as the blue one.
My astilbe is starting to bloom. They look so beautiful up against the green grass!
My magnolia tree is starting to bloom. I was looking up and I spotted this beautiful bud!
My Japanese Painted Ferns have gotten huge this year. I think they love the rain, especially after the severe drought we had last year! The yarrow is really beautiful this year too.
This miniature yellow daylily is one of my favorites. I have 4 across the front shrubs. They always look so happy and remind me of sunshine.
This little banana tree decided to start growing with all the rain we've had. I thought it wouldn't come back this year, but I was wrong there are 2 babies this year. I might try to pot up one and bring it with us to the new house!

I love this Shabby Chic Bedroom!
I was looking for some new ideas for the townhouse and I saw this shabby chic bedroom and I just fell in love with this picture. I don't know if I will make the Guest Room in the new house look like this but it sure is pretty! I do have blue toile in the guest room now, so I might be able to do this. What fun I'll have decorating the new place.

John and I saw Angels and Demons by Dan Brown today!
This afternoon John and I went to see Angels and Demons with my bookclub. It was a very good movie. I hadn't read the book but John did and he said it was still really good. Sometimes when you've read a book and then see it you are let down but he said not the case with this movie. Tom Hanks looked much better in this movie than in The DaVinci Code. His hair was cut shorter and he didn't look so old. Ewan McGregor was a priest in the movie and he did a superb job too! The female lead actress did a really nice job also (can't remember her name). It was definitely worth seeing! It was the perfect fit for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Packing some small items today
John and I are packing some small items today. I thought I would pack up my green depression glass collection in bubble wrap today and get that put in one of the walk in closets upstairs for safe keeping. I have to go through the closet under the stairs on the first floor too. I'm sure there is a few garage sale items in there! Our neighborhood is having a garage sale on 6/6 so I'm getting things ready for that too. This is a good way to weed out what we don't want. We won't have as much room in the new place so we have to get rid of a few things. I've listed some things on Craig's List and some of the things seem to be selling, which is a good thing!
The lease on the new townhome will be ready to sign the beginning of this week. We are really excited about that! We all have agreed on everthing ahead of time, lets just hope their lawyer doesn't mess things up. We all agreed on a realy simple lease and that's what I hope he writes.
Everyone have a lovely weekend!

Jenny's 26th Birthday is today!
Today is Jenny's 26th birthday. I can't believe that much time has flown by! Jenny is my daughter that is pregnant (due in Jan.). She is such a strong young woman and I love her so much! She and Megan have an extremely strong bond with each other, which is wonderful to see in sisters. I could probably count on 1 hand the amount of disagreements they've had. Jennifer Ann McDermitt was born on 5/15/1983 at 11:55 a.m. and weighed 7 lbs. 11 ozs and she was 21 1/2 inches long. She was a very easy baby, always laughing but always watching everything and everyone. To this day she is very observant and lively. When Jenny got married last year she wore my wedding dress and I gave her a necklace that was my grandmothers. She is an extremely special person and is going to make an amazing mother. Jenny has had many struggles in her life but has overcome every one of them. When she was 3 yrs. old she was burned by a hot air vaporizer and was the burn unit for 9 days and almost passed away but she rallied and came back even stronger. She went on to become #1 in the state (NJ) for her ski racing and slalom racing when she was a sophomore in high school. When she was 20 she was coming home from college and a firetruck ran a red light and t-boned her (she was driving a little red VW beetle) but she came through with minor injuries and was stronger than ever! She has accomplished alot in her life especially with her art and photography talents. She is an awesome daughter, wife and in a few months she will be an awesome Mom. Happy Birthday to you sweet Jenny!

We are renting this townhouse!
I am so excited-we are renting this townhouse probably as of 6/1 or 6/15. We have to see when the phone and computer company can move John's office to the new abode. This townhouse is so gorgeous! I told John that after the 2 yr. lease is up we just might want to buy it! The first floor rooms: Dining Room, Kitchen, Breakfast Nook and Living Room, Pantry. The second floor rooms: Master Bedroom with bath, 2 secondary bedrooms and laundry room (which even has a laundry sink!). The master bedroom also has 2 walk-in closets! The architectural detail is so nice and beautiful-crown moldings, picture framing in the Dining Room, chair rails in other rooms, just beautiful. The countertops in the kitchen are granite, which I love. The Maytag Washer and Dryer and side by side refrigerator are also included! There is a 2 car garage and a fenced in courtyard. The owner said I could garden away if I wanted to. She also said I could paint the rooms different colors if I want to also. The husband and wife (owners) were so nice and understanding. They have 2 homes and that is why they are renting this out. She told me we were an answer to their prayers and I told her she and her husband were answers to our prayers. We sign the lease over the weekend. They aren't even making us give a pet deposit! I am on cloud 9 right now! We also have a house showing for our house tomorrow night. Keep your fingers crossed!! Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts!
I hope today the search is over!
Well today I'll be looking at another townhome with John at 4:00. The one we thought we could get didn't work out, the owner changed her mind. I had a feeling she might do something like that, but I had hoped she wouldn't. Today I'm really excited about going to see this one, I think it will be really nice and it has a lovely fenced in courtyard. I could put my fountain there and have all my container plants and our metal outside table too! I hope that we can put this searching to bed. I'm actually looking forward to moving and living a "normal" life again. John said we won't know how to act, I told him I will have no problem acting "normal" again. I also will enjoy not having people looking at our house any time they wish. That is getting old after having the house on the market since last July! We are strong people and after we have our new place I can start thinking more about our grandbaby being born in January! Everyone have a lovely day!

Things are looking up!
I looked at 7 townhomes yesterday and I have narrowed it down to 2. All of them would work except two-one was way too small and the other was way too expensive. We asked our realtor to contact the owner of the one we really liked and we sent our application to her now it is the waiting game. If that doesn't work out we will try for the other one. I feel much better now that I have done some more looking. Thank you all so much for your prayers, hugs and wonderful sentiments, it really means alot to me.
Well I better get back to work! Everyone have a lovely day!

I have something to tell everyone.
Good Morning Everyone. I have something to tell everyone, I was going to wait but now I need prayers and support. I will just say it plain and simple, John and I are losing our house. We have been trying to work with the Bank for a few months and they just don't call back, they say they are working on a modification but they never return our calls. So John and I are forced to look for a rental. We thought we had found one last week and then we think that fell through. Today I'm leaving the office at 12:00 to go and look at some homes and townhomes. The thing that really burns me in all this is the news, people, etc. keep saying the Banks will work with you, that is an out and out lie! I know atleast 5 possibly 6 people that the Bank never got back to them and they still have their jobs but they still lost their homes. We could make about 3/4 to 7/8ths of our mtg. payment but the bank won't accept it, they want the full amount or nothing! How crazy is that! The kicker of the whole thing is they have a sheriff's sale scheduled for my 50th birthday, 7/23! John and I need your prayers and hugs that's for sure. I never thought we would ever be in this position, but we understand we are not alone. Not that it makes it totally better but we know we are good people it's just the real estate market and economy are not good for our business. Sorry to have to burden everyone about this but y'all would wonder why we were moving. You all are such a great group of people and your a great support group!
I am actually looking forward to finding a more affordable home, something smaller, which will be easier to keep clean. I will have fun decorating a new place where we can call home. Thanks everyone!

Mother's Day was wonderful!
I had a wonderful Mother's Day with my hubby, girls and their husbands!! We started out going to Church together. We came home from Church and went to Megan and Ken's house for Brunch. It was so nice and sunny out we had Brunch on their patio. We ended up staying out on the patio until around 3:00 in the afternoon!! Jenny and Kevin had to leave around 1:45 because Jenny had to work at the restaurant in the evening. She really didn't want to go. She was sick all throughout the Church service-the poor thing! I hope her whole pregnancy isn't like that. Jenny and Kevin gave me alot of bath type items. Cute emory boards, bath fizz ball (lavendar scented), cotton gloves for when you put hand cream on then you slip the gloves on to keep the moisture in and cream off your furniture, bedding, etc., bath confetti, lovely soaps, loofah pads, a pad for my refrigerator and a little box of chocolates. Megan and Ken gave me a Pandora bracelet and charm. The charm was of a little bird. She said they will give me charms/beads for my birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, etc. Both girls out did themselves!! The best part was we got to just sit, relax and have good times with each other. We talked about babies, decorating, houses, jobs, books, gardening, jewelry and anything and everything! What a wonderful Mother's Day! I just love those girls!!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY EVERYONE!
I went looking through my pictures of my Mom and I found a really good one of her. This picture was taken at our oldest daughter, Megan's wedding. It's of my Dad, Megan and my Mom. I thought my Mom looked really beautiful that day. We have had our ups and downs as most Mom and Daughters do, some worse than others but I still love my Mom. She is a talented watercolor artist and has a beautiful garden at her house. She is also a very good cook. Everyone always remarks, "When you enter Jeanette's house everything is so clean you could eat off the floor!". I won't be spending Mother's Day with my Mom but I will be spending it with my 2 daughters, their husbands and my husband. But here's to you Mom-Happy Mother's Day!
Everyone (even women who are not mothers) enjoy this day as a celebration of women in general. ENJOY!

I put alot of items on Craig's List last night!
UPDATE: I've already sold the pine curio cabinet and the antique dress form I had listed!! Woohoo!
Last night I put about 8 things on Craig's List. I had to resize some of my pictures, which took some time but everything worked out perfectly! Now I just hope some people to come along and buy them. We will be downsizing when we move and alot of the furniture in our house is perfect for this house but not so perfect for a smaller home. Plus I'm going back to decorating with a more country, Victorian feel. I love my decorating at this house now, but I'm ready for a change after 5 years. I have 3 more things to take pictures of and list today and then I think the list is complete. Here are a few things I listed:

TGIF!!!!
This week really needs to end! It has been busy both at work and at home! I think I said the same thing last week. This week has been crazier than last week though! I don't have huge plans for the weekend, reading, relaxing and just plain chillin' out is in store for me! Sunday, of course, we will get together with Megan and Ken, Jenny and Kevin and go to Church then Brunch for Mother's Day. That will be really nice. I hope there will be lots of showings on our house since we lowered the price to what is almost ridiculous! I might try to do some creative things too, a little painting, jewelry making, knitting.... I wish you all a very happy weekend and Mother's Day!

Here is my new office as promised!
Yesterday I moved into my new office. I had a nice office in the middle of the building. I didn't have a window to the outside though and on cloudy or rainy days I kind of felt like I was in a little hole. My boss came along on Monday and told me he wanted me to move to a bigger office on the outside of the building. All day Tuesday I packed up all my desk items, files, drawings and Closeout Binders and moved on down the hall. I am now in a larger office and I have a lovely view of the woods. I love the light and brightness of the new space alot! It just makes you feel good!
This is where I spend almost the whole day just typing away and talking on the phone to owners, subcontractors and officials for our projects.
As you can see I have a lovely view beyond the parking lot. I love to look at the woods while I'm talking on the phone! I also have this lovely drafting table now. I can actually work on my drawings all sprawled out on the table now instead of folding them in half across my desk. This will be great when a subcontractor calls and I have to look at a drawing. It will also be great when I have to mark up drawings, which is usually 6 or 7 copies of the same thing! Gotta love it!
This is the woods and shrubs that I was talking about! Everything is so green right now. Today one of the guys was in my office and he said slowly turn around and look out your window there is a hummingbird right outside the window looking at you! I had a coral color top on today and I guess he liked what he saw!! Actually he was drinking water off the leaves of the boxwood outside my office.
It is so nice and quiet down at this end of the building too. At the other end the 2 girls in accounting are always yelling back and forth to each other. One of my project managers that was across the hall also has a hearing problem and was always yelling into the phone at his workers or subcontractors. I guess he thought they couldn't hear either! I have 2 of my favorite Project Managers on either side of my office now. It makes it easier for me to do their work too, they don't have to walk all the way around the building to get things to me. They said they are going to cut holes in the wall and have a pass through like the butlers used to have, that way they will never have to get out of their chairs-silly guys!!
Well I hope y'all liked the tour! Everyone have a lovely evening! Also thanks for all the congratulations and best wishes on our daughter, Jenny being pregnant! She called me today and said she is so tired, wait until the baby is born and she'll really be tired then! We are all so happy!

I'M GOING TO BE A GRANDMA!!!!
This picture was taken of Jenny and Kevin last August when they got married at our house-they are the new parents to be!!
I came home from work last night and I noticed a pink envelope on the counter that said Mom open now. John was walking Teddy so I thought I better get dinner started because our friend was coming over for dinner and he would be here at 6:30 and it was 6:05. John and Teddy came in and John asked me why I hadn't opened the card from Jenny. I said Mother's Day isn't yet but he told me it says open now. So I stop what I'm doing and open it and a little fuzzy bunny is on the card and it's says "Hi Grandma!" I open it up and Jenny had written that you are going to make a great grandma in 8 months!!! I was so happy for them!! I called them right away and she was crying I was crying!! You bet I'm getting out the knitting needles, buying some yarn and I'm getting out the sewing machine too! John and I are so happy for Jenny and Kevin (and ourselves too!!). She said she has been a little sick this week and almost passed out at work the other day. I told her to be careful and take it easy (she has a tendency to over do). So in the beginning of January I'll be a Grandma!! Can you tell I'm happy-LOL!!!
Everyone have a wonderful day!

I moved into my new office today!
I am all settled in my new office at work! WOOHOO! I have a huge window that looks out at the woods. There is so much light and so much more space. I'll have to bring my camera in tomorrow and take some pics to show y'all! Today has been a good day. I spent almost the whole day moving everything from my office up to this one. I had to move the files, drawings, binders, etc. from the last office occupant to my old office because that project is still being worked on. I am the first woman in the office to have an outside office-I feel very special!! Now we'll work on being a Project Manager!! If that never happens I will be just as happy, but it would be nice! Everyone have a great evening!

Sweet Vickie gave me this award....
Sweet Vickie (http://iyamvixenbooks.blogspot.com/) gave me a very sparkly award. The only requirement for this award is that you shared it with whomever you like, sharing the love is always a good thing. The blog has to show only one characteristic, caring. So, start sharing this enchanted award with five other bloggers. Let your bloggers know they have received this enchanted award. (Remember, fairies are fickle wee things, don't incur their displeasure by ignoring their gift).
I will pass this on to Rue (http://ruespeanutbutterandjellylife.blogspot.com/) and Victoria (http://vintagetea.blogspot.com/). They are the sweetest bloggers and I care about them so much!

Sunday Stroll-The Iris' and roses are beautiful this year!
I was suppose to go with John to the Quail Hollow Golf Classic today but I had a splitting headache and was running a fever. I slept for most of the day, but I needed to stretch my legs and get some outside sun and fresh air. I took a stroll around the house (that was about all the walking I did today). Our iris' are blooming now and the roses are just so beautiful this year I had to photograph them and show everyone.
Last night or I should say early this morning I finished reading Flamingo Diner and I enjoyed that immensely! I have started reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and I'm really enjoying that so far. This book is very interesting. It is for my bookclub and the leader of the club told me the writer lived in NYC during the 911 attacks. She wasn't able to leave her apartment for a few weeks so she hunkered down and wrote this book!
Here is what Publisher's Weekly had to say on amazon.com about the book:
The story is set during the nascent civil rights movement in Jackson, Miss., where black women were trusted to raise white children but not to polish the household silver. Eugenia Skeeter Phelan is just home from college in 1962, and, anxious to become a writer, is advised to hone her chops by writing about what disturbs you. The budding social activist begins to collect the stories of the black women on whom the country club sets relies and mistrusts enlisting the help of Aibileen, a maid who's raised 17 children, and Aibileen's best friend Minny, who's found herself unemployed more than a few times after mouthing off to her white employers. The book Skeeter puts together based on their stories is scathing and shocking, bringing pride and hope to the black community, while giving Skeeter the courage to break down her personal boundaries and pursue her dreams. Assured and layered, full of heart and history, this one has bestseller written all over it.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Now I'm headed back to the couch to rest and rejuvenate for work tomorrow! Everyone have a lovely evening!
This is the pale pink rosebush when you come in our driveway. The fragrance is absolutely wonderful this year. I think all the water we had really helped the roses and plants this year after the severe drought we had last year and the year before.
A closeup of the pale pink rose.
This purple iris looks almost black before it opens. It is a rich, royal purple color. When the light hits its petals there is a shimmer effect, very beautiful!
This is the center of the purple iris. The wind flutter the one petal but I thought it gave it a new perspective. Very elegant and beautiful iris for sure!
This peach colored iris came out today, what a beauty!!
This is the center of the peach colored iris. I just thought the different colors and textures were beautiful!
This velvet red rose is just blooming up a storm this year!
These 2 red roses are up against the brick on our house. They just looked perfect there!
This William Lobb Moss Rose just started to bloom and it is beautiful! The buds are so fuzzy this year, hence the moss rose name! The thorns are plentiful though on this bush, but you have to overlook that and see the beauty in the rose and buds.

Selling some surplus furniture.
John and I have been making a list of furniture that we want to sell because we just have too much stockpiled. When we moved from NJ we had alot more rooms in that house so we brought everything with us and thought we would sell it down here. We realized that was not such a great idea-we could have gotten more $$ in NJ. We really need to get rid of some clutter and whenever we move the house will be smaller and it wouldn't fit. I'm not getting rid of any of my antiques but we have an extra couch, wall unit, dining room set, pine work table, curio cabinet and a few other little things. It will be good to get rid of all that. Also the style of this house is a different style than some of the furniture we have. I was able to use all the antique dressers I've got in this house but I really want to get back to our more "country or shabby chic furniture whenever we move. It will be alot of work getting everything ready but it will be good to have less cluttered up rooms. So this weekend I'll be spending some of the time getting all these things ready for sale. I do have one antique dresser that I never really, really cared for so I'm calling an antique dealer to come look at it. She bought a few victorian things from me about a year ago and really liked the dresser. I should have sold it to her then.
