Water Features in the Garden

With the thermometer rising it got me thinking about water features in the garden. Almost every house we have ever owned we had water features in the gardens. Mostly they were koi ponds with lovely koi fish, waterlilies and either a small fountain or waterfall. The girls loved watching the fish swim happily in the ponds and they would help me feed them. One summer we paddled out on Kemah Lake where my friend lived and harvested our own water lilies-the girls had alot of fun doing that! I am really missing the trickling water sound and I am going to look into a small garden pond I can put on the patio here at our rental house. The sounds of the water are very relaxing and in this weather would atleast make me feel cooler. The birds and butterflies love water features too! I went on line and found some really cool ideas on the hgtv.com website and I thought I would share them with you.

This garden pond is similar to the ones we used to have at some of our homes.

I thought this was an interesting feature having your garden path "float" above the water.

I love this one! The person drilled a hole through a rock and had the water bubbling out of the rock-great idea!!

This antique hand water pump makes a great addition to any water feature!

Lastly it doesn't matter what size space you have, you can always fit a water feature into your garden!

Stay cool my friend!

  1. These are gorgeous, but I always worry about mosquitoes in Hawaii. Granted, if you have koi, they'd eat the larvae.

  2. Hi Kay! I've never had a mosquito problem. In Hawaii though you might, but like you said the koi would eat the larvae.

  8. That makes sense, Kay. You need to watch out for those pesky mosquitoes on those water fountains or irrigation systems. Of course, like the koi fish, there are ways to keep those insects away. In any case, you have a fabulous garden Sherri. It's a good thing you on have no mosquito problems.
