Books, Books Everywhere!!

(via pinterest.com)

Last night I was talking to John at dinner about all the books we have. We have 3 huge bookcases of books and we still don't have enough room for all of them. Alot of the books I have not read yet so I am the biggest culprit! I've got alot of historical fictions (which are usually large books) so they take up alot of room, I've got a gajillion cozies that need to be read and alot of fiction books tucked in here and there. I have gardening and decorating books still boxed up in the garage from when we moved in to the house we are renting in May. They will stay that way until we buy another house. I have a Color Nook that has alot of books on it and John has a Kindle that has alot of books on it. So I guess you get my drift when I titled this post books, books everywhere-we really do!

I have to make a better effort this year to read the books I already have. I tried this last year but failed horribly. As soon as I'm done with the books, I have been very good about putting them on paperbackswap so someone else can enjoy them. I also have been trying not to request anymore books unless they are on my wish list.

I have come to the conclusion that I could have a much worse vice than books and collecting books! I just need to read more, but my knitting has taken some of that time. I guess I will have to learn how to divide my time between my 2 vices!!

Do any of you have tons of books?

  1. We used to have a ton of books too.... at least 3 bookcases worth. However, when we moved to Hawaii, we had to do some serious cutting. Still... I see that our shelves here in Hawaii are filling again. Sigh...

  2. I have way too many books, too. I LOVE them. I am going to have to pass them along if/when we move this next year. I am already dreading the sorting process. xo Diana

  3. Maybe someone could read the books to you while you're knitting, haha!!

  4. I think any true book lover probably has more books than shelves :) My shelves are full and I've started storing the overflow in plastic bins. Which is a bad idea because I can't see which books are in there. I just know that I haven't read them. It's a sickness - for me at least.

  5. You can never have too many books! I love books, and often times I will pass them onto others to read or take some to Goodwill, but mostly I like to keep them. I'm sure you'll find time for both reading and knitting!

  6. I finally passed a lot of mine on. Still hanging on to way too many though. It's time to start sorting again.

  7. I have a ton of decorating books, but not fiction. I have a Nook and read my fiction there.

  8. This is a post that I can relate to. Yesterday I finished going through ALL of the bookcases in my living room. I now have 5 garbage bags ready to go to the thrift shop. I decided to be ruthless about what I would keep. A lot are going, but a lot are staying too.

  9. I see atleast I am not the only one with books, books, books :)!!

Maya-it is funny you said maybe someone could read them to me while I knit, I do listen to books on my ipod while knitting if the pattern isn't too complicated!

  10. I used to be like this but since using my library for the past couple of years I only have a few books that I'm reading through.

  11. I do have tons of books, but I also donate batches of 15 or more at a time to the library and to an assisted living home. Some even go to Good Will when I make a trip there. Only those that I refer to or re-read stay here permanently.

I often send some books to my daughters and to my best friend by media mail (the only way you can afford to mail heavy books!).

My house is too small, and I read too many books to keep them all.

  12. I now only keep a few of my very favorite novels/biographies which I know I may read again, and also my much-loved decor and cook books. Most of the others are gone to new homes, readers, and thrift shops. The old stacks were such dust catchers and took up far too much space in my small house. Sad to let them go - books do make a room - but I have enough left to play with!

  13. Sherri, I would be embarrassed to have you see how many books I have. Thank God for eReaders because at least now there aren't a lot of books coming into the house. I do need to read more of my own books too. I usually give most to the library. They love me there. Lol.
