Happy Friday and Happy Holiday Weekend!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and a wonderful holiday weekend!  Does everyone have plans?  Tomorrow I will be spending the day with Jenny and Owen.  We are going to an antique mall called The Depot at Gibson Mills in Concord, NC.  Jenny lives in Concord, so that is convenient!!  I can't wait to walk around there and take in all the beautiful things each vendor has.  I will take photos to share on here too!  There is a new restaurant in the complex too, so we will probably be having lunch there.

I will also be stopping by the new house to see what progress was made this week.  I'm hoping some of the framing has been started!  I will need to take some photos for the album I'm creating.

Sunday, I'll probably go knitting for a little while with the girls!  That is always a nice way to spend a few hours while our husbands watch some sport event on the TV.

Monday, John and I are either going to go to Megan and Ken's for a picnic or if that doesn't work out will will do something else just as fun!

Remember Labor Day was first started to celebrate the economic and social contributions of workers!  Everyone enjoy your weekend!

Fall is on its way!

(Photo via pinterest.com)

The humidity has come back to Charlotte, but I can feel a change coming.  That change is Fall!  I saw this pin on pinterest this morning and I thought of Fall immediately!  I have heard the NC apple crop is not going to be that good this year, but I will find some good apples some where for sure!  I am thinking apple crisp or pie with fresh whipped cream or some really good vanilla ice cream and a cup of tea!

Can you tell that I am done with Summer-LOL!!

Are you looking forward to Fall?

Our day~Saturday 8/25/12

We got up and drove up to Concord to have breakfast with Jenny and Owen.  We went to Concord Family Restaurant.  Owen flirted with all the waitresses!!  He was so funny!  They loved him to pieces!  We went to Frank Liske Park after breakfast.  They have a beautiful lake there so we put Owen in his stroller and walked around the entire lake.  It was a beautiful day here today.  Lower temps and no humidity just gorgeous!!

After we left Jenny and Owen at their house, we headed back down to Mint Hill to see what progress was made during the week on our new house.  The foundation is all done and we had a surprise.  We thought we were going to be on a slab and they decided we needed to have a crawl space.   A crawl space was an extra $11,000 but since they told us we didn't have to pay for the crawl space because it was their error it made it even more awesome!!  We walked around the lot and place some things like the patio, front garden, wood garden, etc.  What fun!  The birds were chirping and there is alot of shade in the backyard, which is really great!  Here are some photos I took today:

 Foundation from the street.
Foundation up close from the back of the lot.
Closeup of inside the foundation.
This is the front porch foundation.
The is a shot from the side yard, you can see some of the beautiful house across the street.  It has a porch upstairs and downstairs-really beautiful!

After we left the lot we drove closer to up town Charlotte and we went to the Southern Home Show.  John and I walked up and down all the aisles looking at kitchens, granite, and all sorts of house things.  I really loved looking at all the landscaping booths.  There were so many garden ponds dealers!  They were all so beautiful!

So that was our day!  I was really tired after we got home and had dinner I fell asleep on the couch for about an hour.  We a great day we had!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Some time life brings you pleasant surprises!

Yesterday I was over at Megan's house visiting.  She, Ken and I went to lunch at a Mexican Restaurant not far from our new house.  After lunch I asked if they would like to go by the lot and see it all cleared.  I was pleasantly surprised to see they poured the footings and have the block in place to start the stem wall. Framing will begin in about 1- 1 1/2 weeks!!

I know this doesn't look like much, but this is what is the beginning of the house!!

My 2 Yarn Projects-1 Complete and 1 in Progress

Well I always talk about what knitting projects I'm working on.  Well I finally finished one and I'm getting close on the other one.  The first one is called Silk Moon Crescent Shawl.  I bought the yarn last fall at SAFF (Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair).  This was such beautiful yarn to work with and I think it was because it has silk in it.
This Shawl will be great for those nights that are a little chilly.  This just covers the shoulders and  a little down the back.  I love all the colors, it will be great for Spring too with all the pastel colors.

This shawl is called the Angel Wingspan.  I love this shawl.  The colors are just gorgeous.  This is for me-they are some of my favorite colors.
This is a closeup of the shawl but the colors are a little washed out.  The first picture colors are better.

The owner of the shop where I went Thursday night took some Juniper Moon Farm yarn and dyed it.  Debbie is a beautiful yarn dyer!!  Look at all the lovely colors in the wound skein!!

This yarn unwound looked like a brilliant Florida sunset!  It is just gorgeous!!  I am going to find the perfect shawl pattern for this lovely yarn!
When Darcy at the shop wound it for me she did it so there was a little flower at the top!  She is so clever!!

Well that is all for now.  When I finish the Angel Wingspan I will take another picture-maybe with me wearing it!!

Everyone have a great weekend!!

The Beautiful Outdoors

I needed a break from some of the Subcontracts I have been writing at work, so I wandered over to pinterest.com.  Look at the beauty I found:

What gorgeous Hollyhocks!!  I want to plant some at the new house.  Maybe we will have a little shed and I'll plant them next to it!
This lavendar swirl is just absolutely gorgeous!
Pink roses abound!  I love the arbor.  I will have to show this arbor to hubby for the new house.
These poppies and lupines are gorgeous together! I love the color of the park bench in the photo too!  I want that hat-LOL!
Lovely red roses and I love the weathered rattan chair.  Another gorgeous hat!
I could sit there in these rocking chairs and read or knit all day long!  Those clematis are just gorgeous!  Just amazing!!

Hope you are having a great day!!

Our 33rd Wedding Anniversary and the Cleared Lot!

Today 33 yrs ago today John and I were married.  John was 25 and I was 20.  We were living in NJ and we were married in John's hometown.  We were married at 11 a.m. and then had a reception afterwards.  Where has the time gone!!  It just feels like yesterday that we were walking down the aisle (and it was a really long one!!).  Now we have 2 grown and married children, 2 son-in-laws and one lovely little grandson!      Last night we celebrated our anniversary with the girls, their hubbies and little Owen!  Megan, our oldest daughter, made us a wonderful cake!  One half was chocolate for John and the other half was lemon for me!!  Here is a photo of the cake she made:

Thanks Meg-it was wonderful!!!  You are one talented girl!!

Today John and I slept late, went to lunch at Hawthorne's in Mint Hill (that is the town our new house is being built in), went to check out the cleared lot and now we are home relaxing together!  A perfect day in my book!

Here is a few pictures of the lot all cleared and ready to be built on:

We had some very heavy rains and the lot is pretty muddy.  They will be pouring the footings soon and starting the foundation.  Can't wait until the day we move into our new home!  Apartment life is getting old, but atleast we have a place to stay until the house is done.

I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend!!

They have started the house!!!

John and I received word from True Homes yesterday that they have cleared our lot and have started our new home!!!  They said they have set November 9th as the closing date.  WOOOOHOOOO, we will be in before the holidays!!!!  John and I will be going by the lot tomorrow and taking photos for our New Home Album and I'll post them tomorrow.

On a side note:  John and I will be celebrating our 33rd Wedding Anniversary tomorrow.  I can't believe it has been that long!  It seems like yesterday that we walked down the aisle.

I hope everyone has a really awesome weekend!!  Thanks for sharing this house building experience with us through my blog!!

I Love Watching Kids Play the Old Time Games!

This past weekend we had our grandson, Owen for part of Saturday until noon on Sunday.  What fun we had!  John decided he was going to start Owen out by playing Hide and Seek.  I love watching little kids learning this game and all the other old time games!  Owen is only 1 so we were limited at what we could play with him but Hide and Seek was perfect.  We of course, played a slight variation of the game.  Owen got up in my one and half chair and all by himself covered himself with all the pillows.  I kept saying, where is Owen, I wonder where is Owen".  He started giggling that lovely baby giggle!  John and I started poking the pillows lightly which made him laugh all the more!

Of course, with all 1 yr. olds,  Owen didn't want to stop playing the game.  So Papa and Nana played this game over and over!!  It really was so much fun listening to his little giggle and laugh.  These moments are definitely being treasured by John and I!  We cannot wait until he gets old to play alot more games.  Games like Red Light, Green Light, Simon Says and all the board games that we played as children.

Memories!!!

Who Doesn't Love the Weekend!!

I am soooooooo glad the Weekend is here!!  I don't have any major plans but it will be nice to just chill out for a few days.  I do have a color and highlight scheduled for tomorrow morning.  I will probably go to knitting for a few hours with my friends at Dilworth Coffee on Sunday too.  Other than that the possibilities are endless or not!  I would like to play with some gemstones and make some jewelry.  I have a few special orders that need attention.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  ENJOY!!
