It was 98 yrs. ago the Titanic sunk!

Today is April 14, 2010 and it was 98 yrs. ago April 14, 1912 the Titanic sunk. I couldn't believe it was so many years ago! Jenny, my younger daughter reminded me of this date. She said so many lives were lost and this day should never be forgotten and she is right! The Titanic was such a grand oceanliner, but all the riches in the world couldn't save this fated ship from sinking.

Titanic surpassed all her rivals in luxury and opulence. The First-class section had an on-board swimming pool, a gymnasium, a squash court, Turkish bath, Electric bath and a Verandah Cafe. First-class common rooms were adorned with ornate wood panelling, expensive furniture and other decorations. In addition, the Café Parisien offered cuisine for the first-class passengers, with a sunlit veranda fitted with trellis decorations. There were libraries and barber shops in both the first and second-class. The third class general room had pine panelling and sturdy teak furniture. The ship incorporated technologically advanced features for the period. She had three electric elevators in first class and one in second class. She had also an extensive electrical subsystem with steam-powered generators and ship-wide wiring feeding electric lights and two Marconi radios, including a powerful 1,500-watt set manned by two operators working in shifts, allowing constant contact and the transmission of many passenger messages. First-class passengers paid a hefty fee for such amenities. The most expensive one-way trans-Atlantic passage was US$4,350 (which is more than US$95,860 in 2008 dollars)

I remember watching the movie, Titanic with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet and thinking how this single tragedy changed so many peoples lives. Take a moment to remember all of those that were lost.

Bird Nest Necklace on etsy!

I am in love with making these little nests with eggs in them! I made a ring and now this necklace. I am trying to find little blue beads so it can be a robin's nest. This necklace along with the ring is in my etsy shop if anyone is interested.

I really need to make some earrings, maybe I'll do that right now!!

Megan and Ken's Anniversary

Yesterday I posted my book review so I didn't post about Megan (our oldest daughter) and Ken's 2nd wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary Megan and Ken! Those 2 years have flown by so quickly. It seems like yesterday we were getting ready for the big day! Yesterday's weather was gorgeous, just perfect for an anniversary. They were planning on going to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and I hope they enjoyed themselves!

Book Review and Giveaway!

Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze

What a great book! Forget Me Not combines suspense with a strong sense of faith. It is a Mary Higgins Clark novel meets Fireproof. Throughout the book the reader can not help but feel Kelly’s pain. The reader is forced to imagine what it would be like to have no identity, to have your passed washed away from you. Hinze keeps you at the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen with Benjamin and Kelly. As a reader I was left wishing that the end was a bit more detailed. The book seemed to lead up to one event. That one event seemed a bit rushed. Other than that Forget Me Not was a thrilling page turner that leads you running to the library to get one of the other 23 novels by Vicki Hinze. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense and truly believes that our lives are in the hands of God!

Knitted Dishcloths and a few other things

Hi Everyone! I have been knitting dishcloths lately and I love using them in my kitchen. I had been using Handiwipes but I didn't like the streaks left on my granite countertops. I had received some handknitted dishclothes from a friend in a swap and I found them just wonderful. I'm a knitter and I was looking for a project that wouldn't take me too long and the dishcloths fit the bill! Here are a few examples of my handiwork (one is still in progress as you can by the knitting needles).

I went to Michaels yesterday and bought 4 more skeins of cotton yarn to make my Mom some dishcloths for Mother's Day and I'll also make one for each of my sisters when I visit NJ next month.

This morning I was surprised to see a towhee at my birdfeeder. This bird is usually down on the ground scratching around in leaves, pinestraw, etc. I guess this one likes my Sunflower seeds! Here is a picture of a towhee in case you've never seen one.

Everyone enjoy your day!
