Blowing Rock, NC

John and I drove up to Blowing Rock today. The weather was just gorgeous today! We walked around, had a bite to eat at Six Pence Restaurant, did a little shopping and just enjoyed a beautiful sunshine filled day together! Here are some photos of our day:

Main Street Blowing Rock, NC

Adirondack Chairs outside the Bob Timberlake Store.

Silk flowers in a shop.

Halloween black bicycle outside a shop.

Yellow leaves and Carolina blue sky.

Beautiful Key Windchimes in a shop. I might try and make this!

Beautiful Fall leaves in Blowing Rock.

Beautiful view of the Smokey Mountains!

I also went into a really love yarn shop. They had these sweater kits you could buy. This is what it looks like when you are all done knitting it. Two different view:

John and I are thinking of going back to Blowing Rock around Christmas. I think it would be really beautiful there with all the decorations!

Hope everyone is having a really wonderful weekend!

  3. Hi Sherri - thanks for stopping by so much - sorry I've been lax with comments, life is just too busy!!!

Anyway dear, in answer to your question (and thanks for your kind words about my pics), my main camera is the Olympus SP-590UZ (digital, not an SLR - so not cumbersome, or heavy, and no lenses to lug along, 12 megapixels, 26X zoom, lots of pre-sets, and great macro such as in my bee pics!).

Purchased mine last year for the Africa trip. I loved my pics from the safari and received lots of glowing compliments. This model has been replaced by the SP-800UZ, 14 megapixels and I will definitely think about this newer one if I have to replace mine - hopefully no time soon! Mine has a viewfinder which I love, the newer one doesn't. Seems many cameras are now leaving off the viewfinder and making the LED screen larger.

For more about the new model go to B&H Camera (best place to buy any camera), or the Olympus web site. Price is around $350.

Anyway, your pics of the trip to Blowing Rock are lovely - best time of year to visit is now - wish I had time to go as it's been years since I was there. Haven't even managed to get back to Asheville and dear Penny, hopefully next year though.

Hope you're feeling much better now.
    Take care - hugs, Mary

  4. What a great name for a restaurant--Six Pence. Hard to refrain from adding, "a pocketful of rye."

The sweaters are gorgeous! Are you planning to make one?

  7. You were in Mitford! I read that Jan Karon based Mitford on her town of Blowing Rock. I'd love to visit some day. I bet it will be charming around Christmas.

  8. My husband and I try to go to Blowing Rock at least once or twice a year. In fact we're hoping to get there soon. It's a perfect spot for a little getaway. The shop you showed with the silk flowers is my favorite. I've gotten in a lot of trouble there. LOL.
The sweaters are gorgeous!! Wish I knew how to knit.
