Well this was a full gardening weekend for John and I!! We are sore beyond belief but the gardens look so good! Saturday morning John and I went to Kings Nursery in Stallings, NC. I love that place. It is pricey but they have such beautiful flowers! We bought some things there. I came home and made up two window boxes for the front porch. John put them up for me and they look beautiful!
John started digging the new garden in the backyard. It goes from the back porch all along the back of the house. All I have got to say is clay, clay and more clay!! Whenever John and I dig new gardens or plant plants we really miss the NJ soil we used to have. John worked on the garden for hours. We then went to Lowes and got peat moss to amend the soil.
This morning we went up to Jenny and Kevins. We took Jenny, Kevin and Owen out for breakfast. We had a really nice visit. Owen was definitely all wound up. He was so cute riding his Batman car!!
When John and I got home we changed into gardening clothes. John put peat moss on the backyard garden and then worked it into the soil. Then I planted 5 hostas and a clump of Lenten Rose. Those babies were so glad to get out of their pots. They have been potted up for 3.5 yrs!! Poor things.
We even put our fountain together!!
When we got done with this garden we headed out to the front garden. John pulled out 7 ugly shrubs the builder had put in. They seemed diseased too! I planted 3 daylilies, 1 clump of coral bells, 1 gardenia bush, 1 lily and 2 rose bushes.
Needless to say we are both so sore!! We took some aspirins, nice hot showers and we have been chillin' out in front of the TV for quite a few hours now!!
It was a beautiful weekend!!
Wow- Sometimes all that pain is worth the gain! I just love how nice everything is looking. I'm thinking a hot soak in a tub might be good, Sheri- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWow! The flowers look fabulous and your beds are beautifully ready for planting. We needed to do something like that for our garden. Doggone it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a busy and hard working weekend you had but your efforts look great.

It is almost a good thing coming back to work to rest-LOL!!!

We have clay all the way to hell and back. We amend, but also built raised beds so that we could get enough good soil on top to grow our vegetables on.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard work, but add some Epsom Salts to that warm bath and soak out the soreness.
Sounds like you both worked very hard! We have just started working in our yard too. This home sat empty for two years and is in dire need of some loving.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh but that's a good kind of sore--- look at all that you accomplished!! Your window boxes are beautiful. Pretty flowers will be so welcoming to your lovely new home. Enjoy the spring!!
