Painting, Painting and More Painting!!

I painted from about 7:00 a.m. on Saturday until about 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.  I am painting the bookcases my Dad made for our new home.  I should know better but I didn't prime the wood like I should have and I am paying the price!  I got 1 coat of white semi-gloss paint on the whole unit and there was alot of streaking.  I then started the second coat and there still is streaking.  I spoke with my painting Subcontractor at work and she is sending me a great primer to cover the entire piece and then paint with regular paint.  What a sweetheart she is!  I want to get them all done before Jenny's Baby Sprinkle on Sunday.

Here is what the piece looks like with 1 coat of paint.  As you can see I need alot more coverage.  They will be very nice when they are all done:

My grandson, Owen came in the afternoon and I told him I needed a painting leprechaun and he just laughed at me!  I was serious-LOL!!  I'll show you the finished product when I get there!

Sheri, If I were near by I would gladly help you....it seems people just can't take a hint when we mommys need help. Always prime naked wood. No I am not an expert but I have graduated from the school of "what was I thinking !!"xoxo,Susie

I love the book cases, and I hope you have some good luck painting them! I'm sure they will turn out beautiful.

Susie, I am in construction so I should have known better than to not prime them-I'm paying the price now!!

Donna, thanks for your kind words. I'll post when I'm all done!

Sorry you missed step one here Sherri - I have to agree that priming is usually needed on raw wood to get good paint coverage. Just know you will have these beautiful bookcases looking perfect soon - but that is a lot of work! Your daddy certainly did a wonderful job on them.

Can't wait to see them finished and full of colorful books etc.

Hugs - Mary

Holy Cow! You are an ambitious gal. That is a big job but will be so worth it in the end. I might go ahead and paint the 2nd piece one coat too and then go over them both with the primer so that the paint "takes" the same. Otherwise you might notice a depth of color change between the two of them- I can't wait to see them done- xo Diana

Update: I called my Painting Subcontractor and she sent me over a gallon of Primer/Sealer. Last night I put a coat on and it covered almost everything but the luan plywood backing still had slight streaks on it. It will be all covered up when I put the paint on.

Ring of Kerry, Ireland
My husband, John and I went to Ireland for our 25th Wedding Anniversary in 2004. We had an awesome trip and we will never forget it. We actually got to visit our friends who live in Northern Ireland. We spent 3 wonderful days with them! The picture above was taken when we visited The Ring of Kerry. The beauty of Ireland is just spectacular! If you ever get a chance visit there.
Megan is my oldest daughter. She and Ken were married on April 12, 2008. It was a wonderful ceremony and reception!
Jenny and Kevin at their wedding 8/30/08. The wedding was at our home and turned out wonderful! Everyone had such a good time!
