Eating Healthier in 2012!

I know people make New Year Resolutions to diet, lose weight, exercise more, etc., etc. I have decided to eat healthier, not a resolution I just need to make some changes in my eating habits. I have lived in the South for about 7.5 years now and I have eaten more fried food in the past 7.5 yrs. than I have eating in my lifetime before that-LOL!! Now I love fried chicken just as much as as the next person, but I have started ordering grilled chicken again. I also need to add some fish or seafood to my diet (of course grilled, not fried). I have decided to cut out french fries and order more veggies or a baked potato (not loaded) instead. My daughter, Jenny told me about a website that will help me track my food and exercise and help me get to the weight I want to be. Here is the website in case you are interested: www.myfitnesspal.com. If you have an iphone, etc. you can sync it with your information from this site.

Now I really need to figure out how to get more exercise in my life also. I sit alot of the day at my computer at my job with some walking from one end of the building to the other but I need to do more. I am going to try and walk on my lunch hour or right before dinner when I get home. I might not be able to do this every day but atleast every other day would be good.

Wish me luck!!

  1. I too need to healthier this year! I've been relying on convenience food and takeaways far too much!

I'm actually craving vegetables at the moment!

  3. I'm glad I never liked fried food, except for french fries. Love those..., but only have the "craving" occasionally. Then we go to our fave bar where they serve them up with spices and herbs, hmmmmm. I'm a big veggi lover...

  8. Eating healthier is always a great resolution. I'm still standing in front of my computer and move to burn some calories. So far, I think it's been good for me.

  10. I just read something about people sitting too much get more cancer. The suggestion was to get up from the chair more often - take little breaks from sitting.
Good luck! I'm sure you will succeed.

  12. It's really hard to keep off the weight.......and not to sound discouraging dear but it gets even harder when you age, like me, so I say start now!

I did well last year by doing Atkins for a month and dropping 12 lbs. without starvation - and it kickstarted me to better eating. I'm vegetarian - well non-meat of any kind, do eat fish - which makes it a bit more difficult, but it worked for me.

With so much travel lately I was concerned because I ate a lot on the ship and then in restaurants, however I didn't gain back any weight.........UNTIL these past 3 weeks when I returned home and gobbled too many holiday treats! I'm now planning to cook more Asian style meals - no bread on the side, and only fresh fruit for desserts.

As for exercise, brrrr it's chilly in the mornings now but I'll try to walk mid-afternoons before supper - all positive thoughts and, like you, I'll struggle with them, but am determined because I want to be healthy and feel comfy.

    Good Luck dear!!!

  13. I´m sure you´ll do great - and there´s so much great fish- and chicken dishes out there! We eat a lot of salmon in my home, very easy to cook and delicious and healthy. :-)

  14. I started seriously watching what I eat on January 3rd (day I went back to work).

I was a carb-a-holic, with breads and pasta being my preferred foods. I was never one to eat much fried food or never fast food. I lost (3 lbs) in 4 days, eating about 1,400 calories a day with cereal being my only cards in the am. I also walked (2) of the 4 days for 30 minutes.

So far so good, but I do feel a little light headed today for some reason.

Hope you lose the weight you want to Sheri. Good Luck (I'd like to drop (2) pants sizes.)

  15. Sherri, good luck with your intentions to eat healthier and be healthier. I find that after I lose a few pounds I feel much better and it encourages me to keep it up! I too struggle with getting regular exercise. At my job, I am pretty much standing all day so I am tired when I get home from work and don't feel like going out for a walk especially in the winter. Where I live it's much too cold for me!
    P.S. Happy New Year!
