Now We Have Ice Here in Charlotte!

Ok so the snow is really pretty but ice is another story! No matter what vehicle you have ice is something you cannot navigate in! I am still home waiting for someone to tell us that everything is melting on the road and that it is safe to come into work. I got all ready and was getting ready to leave when I thought I better call one of the owners. Sure enough he said hang tight and wait until mid-morning and see. I am doing just that! I have a ton of things that need to be done at work but none of it is as important as my life! I am sitting here chatting with my friends and sipping tea, what could be better!!

Snow Hits Charlotte Again!

Today Charlotte woke up to snow coming down. We ended up having between 5-6 inches of snow with sleet/freezing rain on top of that. I didn't go into work today either. I decided that since I had my accident on 9/11 it just isn't worth risking my life or my car. John was home too which was really great! We slept in and then just did things like reading our books, I was knitting some and working on the computer. It was a great snow day! I love days like this!

Here are some pictures I took in our courtyard:

This is the courtyard all covered in snow!

My little garden fairy looks cold out there!

The picnic table looks like a big waffle!

Here's a closeup of the "waffle" picnic table.

This evergreen looks so pretty when the snow covers it. Snow makes everything look so pretty!

Friends are Wonderful!!

Last night John and I had a wonderful evening with our friends, Patty and Rick! We went to Patty and Rick's house and then drove to a wonderful Italian Restaurant called Portofino's. Patty warned us that this restaurant didn't look like much and was in a a strip mall but the food was fantastic. She was so right!! John had the special, which was tilipia and shrimp, which was served with fresh spinach with a white wine sauce, I had a veal special they were offering. This special was veal with fresh spinach, garlic, onions, etc. with a light sauce, which was fabulous! Patty was certainly right-everything was awesome!! After dinner we chatted for a bit and then made our way back to Patty and Rick's house. We had some tea, played cards, chatted a bit more and then came home. What an absolutely wonderful evening we had!

Evenings like this really make you cherish the friends you have and the good times! Thanks Patty and Rick for a really nice evening!

How much different houses look with some snow!

As you know I posted about the snow we had here in Charlotte on Christmas night into the next day-well that is all gone. I know some of you are thinking I wish we lived there because we still have alot of snow. When we lived in northwestern NJ we just couldn't wait for Spring to come. It could be the end of May before that really happened there. It is really nice to have just brief glimpses of snow here in Charlotte, so that is why I love looking at pictures of snow-laden trees and houses. Bear with me the people who live in the snow-in regions of the world!! I decided to look online for some pictures of beautiful snow covered houses. It got me thinking about how different houses look with snow on them. Sometimes if a house has a few flaws the snow seems to cover them, like icing on a cake! I decided to post some houses I found on line that I thought was really pretty! Hope you enjoy!!

I love this black and white picture of this house!

I'd love to be tucked inside this little English cottage!

Or maybe go to Colorado and be in this log house with all the snow around!

John and I have always loved Maine. Look at this wonderful house!

Can't forget the beautiful houses in Vermont either! I love the never ending porch on this one!!

I don't know where this yellow Victorian is, but it looks like the houses John and I saw in Kennebunkport, ME when we visited there. Just beautiful!

Here's another huge old yellow house all covered in snow. I love the 2 trees out front-they seem to have the snow blowed on each and every branch-just gorgeous!

Even though this little cottage's roof needs some work, I always loved Rosehill Cottage in the movie The Holiday! It would be wonderful to stay in a little cottage like that some day!

Finally Getting things under control!

I finally feel like things are getting back under control. I have completed alot of things at work (still have more to go). I finished John's scarf I was knitting. I will post some pictures this weekend. I'm working on the baby blanket for the guy in my office that his grandmother started and I'm finishing for his new baby because she passed away. I am also working of Megan's shawl, which I did not get done for Christmas. I feel more relaxed right now even with all those projects. Last night John and I had a nice dinner, then we went to Target, went to Best Buy where I got my new phone and then we just chilled out! Tonight I'll be meeting my friend for tea. I love having tea with Alison, she is so full of life and very encouraging in almost everything I talk to her about :)! I really feel that sometimes I just have to step back and realize that I am only one person and I can only do a certain amount of things. This is really a hard thing for me. I am so used to doing a multitude of things. Maybe as I get older, I am getting more wiser!!

I hope everyone takes some time for themselves everyday-that is what I am going to try and accomplish in 2011.

Enjoy life!

Work has been crazy!

I really know I shouldn't be complaining because there are so many people out of work due to the recession, but I just wish I could clone myself about 5 times over!!! I have been running around trying to put out fires, do Project Managers jobs because they are out, closing out 8 projects at one time, doing my regular work, etc., etc. So if you don't hear from me for a few days, don't get worried I am just super busy at work and trying to do some things at home.

Welcome 2011!!

Things that are White

This time of year I don't know why but I love things that are white. I love to decorate with alot of white, have fresh white flowers in the house, use white dishes and table linens, white bedding, dream of white gardens, etc., etc. I think to me white in the new year represents starting fresh again, a sort of renewal! I started thinking of all the white things I love and here is a collection of things I found and thought I would share them with you!

When I was a little girl I always wanted a vanity when I grew up. Well I don't have one but I found this picture of one. Wouldn't any woman feel special putting her makeup or jewelry on at this one! I know I would!

I took this picture in the Fall when I was up in Asheville. I could just write letters for hours at a desk like this.

If I had this bed, I would feel like a Queen! I always feel white bed linens are so calming and soothing. I think I get this thought from my Nana, she always had beautiful white bed linens.

White bed linens very similar to the ones Nana had.

I have an antique stepback cupboard in my Dining Room, maybe a display of white dishes similar to this would look beautiful! Something to think about.

When I saw this picture of this white living room, my first thought was how comfy it looked! I could just see myself knitting or reading in that room for hours!

White tea sets and white table settings have always been a favorite of mine! I would love to have the things in the next two pictures:

You could add these beautiful white cupcakes to your white tea set too! These creations are just gorgeous!

This Victorian white fence piece was in an antique shop in Asheville. White I was photographing it and looking at it, I thought what a wonderful piece to use in a sun room or even a victorian white garden. There are so many things you could do with this piece of the past!

Well I hope I haven't bored you with my "white" obsession. I just think there are so many beautiful white things in the world. Color is wonderful, but sometimes white is just magical! Off to think of some new ways to add white into my home decorating!
