Where I grew up

Last week as you all know I had to travel to northwestern NJ because my Dad wasn't feeling well.  While I was there I took some photos and I thought I would share them with you!

This is the view down my parents driveway.  They are a long way from the road!
These are 2 Fordson tractors my Dad restored.  They are his pride and joy!!
My parent house.  Dad built this house about 42 yrs. ago.
 My Dad's barn.
The 2 steer he has on the property.
This is a very small section of my Mom's beautiful garden in the backyard.  My Dad built the fence and arbor and they have trumpet vine growing on it.  It is really beautiful!  You can see the white Victorian birdhouse my Dad built.  Just gorgeous!
This is the fence down by my Dad's barn.  He grew trumpet vine on it.  He told me he trimmed this way back in the Spring, but look how it has grown even after trimming!
A section of my Mom's gorgeous garden in their backyard.
I was in the right spot at the right time to snap a shot of this gorgeous Monarch Butterfly.
 My Dad's corn.
This Indian Grinding Stone was my Dad's mothers.  I had just filled it with clean water.  The butterflies flocked to it as soon as I filled it.
My sister, Sue gave my Mom this beautiful Mandevilla Vine for Mother's Day.  Isn't it a beauty!
This is a shot from the road of my parent's place.
I am so pleased at how the shot of my Mom's zinnia came out!  I love the color!
My Dad has  few blueberry plants in his garden and they are loaded down with berries.

I hope you enjoyed a little view into my week last week.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

  2. I love your parent's place. What a sweet and wonderful place to call home. I love it all-from the road up to the beautiful hose...and the birdhouse and flowers. Just gorgeous. I would not want to leave...but if I DID leave I would probably "steal" a few blueberries on the way out- xo Diana

  3. Lori and Diana-it is so nice and quiet at my parents house. Even though I was concerned about my Dad most of the time, I enjoyed just being in the peace and quiet of my parents house. It is like going on vacation!

Your dad is a talented man to have built all of the buildings, arbors, and fences.
    Your mom's gardens are gorgeous!

  11. I came here yesterday, and have thought about it ever since. It almost makes me cry. It is so very beautiful, and the fact he did all that work himself is a wonder to me. Did he have an outside job then? I know you've shown some stuff he built you. Was that his job - a builder? Anyhow, I just love all these pictures. I would find it very hard to leave there. I'd probably look at my life and try to make it work in a place like that. I hope there are young people who want that kind of life. I fear everybody wants to live in the city now. Thanks so much for posting these, Sherri. I'm going to save the post so I can go look at it occasionally. Do they have to plow that road??

  12. Sherri- I had no idea that NJ was so rural-- these photos are gorgeous- they look like they could have been taken right here in my hometown in KY. Your parents have a lovely farm! Your Mom's flower garden is magnificent-- that butterfly photo is outstanding!!

I hope you had a wonderful visit and that your Father is feeling better---

  13. Nan, what a lovely comment you left!! My Dad was a residential home builder before he retired about 7 yrs. ago. He was making some furniture up until a little while ago when his illness made it so he couldn't build anything. He is about the same but he will be seeing a specialist in NYC on Thursday. Hopefully they can stop the illness he has. My Mom has worked really hard on her gardens over the years and it shows!

Glad these photos made everyone happy! It is a beautiful place!

  14. Hi Sherri!! right now I am in Cape May while Karrie is manning the shop! My husband's family lives in Bayonne NJ, so it is really neat seeing the "soft" side of NJ. Love your parent's place...it is beautiful ~ I can just imagine just how wonderful it is to live there :) Thanks for sharing the pictures!!
